False Solomons Seal
(Smilacina racemosa)

False Solomons Seal is a 30-100 cm. tall perennial often found in bunches. It is the only lily to have the distinctive large clusters of tiny white flowers.

LEAVES:: - False Solomons Seal leaves are long and broad, coming to point; - found in 2 rows along the stem; - noticeable veins running the length of the leaf

FLOWERS:: - Flowers on the False Solomons Seal are tiny and white; - found in a large cone at the top of the stem; - powerful scent

FRUIT:: - round, red berries

HABITAT:: - False Solomons Seal are found in low to subalpine areas; - widespread in wet forests and clearings

FASCINATING FACTS:: - when young, False Solomons Seal can easily be mistaken for the poisonous Indian hellebore.
